These were made when American manufacturers and designers … Read more Offering a fine pair of AMERICAN outdoor wall sconces from around 1920. These were made when American manufacturers and designers employed resources that were abundant. So here we have cast iron, and these sconces are extremely heavy, around 5 pounds each! As you can see in the last photo, they have their original, integrated porcelain-surrounded standard-sized sockets, and everything is in perfect condition and working perfectly as well. These have been rewired and you can use any size bulb you desire -- wattage, that is. I suspect that even a 250 watt bulb might physically fit in the shade. No problem whatsoever for a 100-watt bulb.

The shades are top quality along with the metal. There are no mold marks, they're probably mold-blown. The white glass gives off a beautiful diffused light, no glare.

No need to hire an electrician to mount these to existing electrical boxes.

Over the decades these sconces were covered in house paint more than once. That paint has been scraped off where it had been compromised by the elements or whatever. That is, the most offending bumps and whatnot have been razor-bladed off before the lamps were spray-painted with a high quality "wrought iron" style black paint. If you want these to be and look "perfect" you can easily remove the electrical components and strip down the metal, then paint them (or not). There are three holes in the bottom of each shade-holder which allow any rain water that might get in between the shades and the metal to drip out.

Dimensions: 15 inches high including the shades when installed. The shades are about 6 inches in diameter. The back plate is 5 inches in diameter, plenty large enough to cover an electrical box. See less
