Elevate your next tablescape with an exceptional piece of Belle Époque culinary history. This curated set of six antique, shell-shaped dishes was handcrafted in Limoges, France, by the renowned master ceramicist René Frugier.
Bearing the highly collectible, pre-merger green oval "Frugier Limoges - France" backstamp, this set dates from the golden window of 1899 to the late 1920s, before Frugier's historic merger with Haviland China.
Frugier, an engineer by trade, famously revolutionized French culinary arts by inventing "Aluminite"—an ultra-durable, heat-resistant variety of premium fine porcelain. Unlike delicate display china of the era, these heavy-duty pieces were engineered to move directly from the intense heat of the kitchen stove or oven right to the center of a formal dinner table.
With a timeless, coastal-meets-classic aesthetic, these pristine white shell dishes are incredibly versatile. Use them for elegant seafood courses, individual baked gratins, artisanal butter presentation, or as exquisite tableside open salt cellars.
STYLES: French Country, Coastal, Traditional, Grandmillennial
DIMENSIONS: Approx 5 in. x 5 in.
CONDITION NOTES:
In beautiful antique condition, consistent with age and use. The highly durable structural porcelain is free from defects such as flea bites, chips, and cracks. There is wear on the bottom of some dishes, as shown in the photographs, consistent with high-heat use. The cartouche on those has changed color from bright green to dark forest green due to scorching. This has affected the overglaze, resulting in a sandy texture.
