Originating from the Southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, this piece served the Mbole people as a facilitator of major trade transactions. The Mbole are renowned for creating some of the largest and most distinctive jewelry forms in sub-Saharan Africa, traditionally worn by both men and women as symbols of wealth and status. This particular anklet represents the larger size, known as "Ehuke." Each piece was meticulously forged and hammered from a single ingot of metal, with one side featuring a distinctive cast opening. The craftsmanship reflects generations of metalworking tradition and cultural significance within Mbole society. A remarkable example of African trade currency and wearable art, this anklet embodies the artistic heritage and economic practices of the Mbole people. THE STAND NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE . See less
