Louis Lourioux (1874–1930) began his production in 1899 in Foëcy, in the Cher region of France, during the height of the Art Nouveau period. His works were inspired by the animal and plant world, and he became known for his stoneware pieces and high-fire decorations.
A contemporary of Lalique and Gallé, he quickly gained recognition for the quality and softness of his glazes, as well as for his delicate color palette and his mastery of the ceramic arts, using traditional forms. Appointed Ceramist of Art in 1906, he received honors for his vase "Soir de Fête" (Evening of Celebration) at the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts.
This vase, dating from around 1910, belongs to the Art Nouveau phase of his work, prior to his evolution towards a more geometric style. Keen to keep pace with the artistic movements of his time, he subsequently moved towards a more refined and geometric Art Deco style.
The base of the piece bears the "à la Louve" stamp—one of Lourioux's two emblematic signatures, along with "Les Ailes"—applied in blue to the unglazed foot.
The piece is in good overall condition, with no visible restoration. Height: 18.5 cm.
