The "guglielmo tell" sculptural floor lamp is born from italian designer dario nasuti’s continuous exploration of fluidity, the evolution of states, and the dramatic manipulation of raw matter. The artwork is deeply influenced and guided by the complex, rebellious, and geometric notes of 1970s progressive rock, which constantly plays in his studio. This musical stimulus translates into a design object that completely rejects static forms: the traditional articulated arm lamp is stripped of its merely industrial nature and transfigured into a continuous, flowing sculpture. From the circular base to the light source, the piece radiates an overwhelming sense of dynamism and movement, bestowing an intense theatrical character upon any interior space.
the manufacturing process: from haute couture draping to vitrification
born into a family devoted to fashion for four generations and backed by a thirty-year career in international luxury (which included collaborations with global powerhouses like donna karan and a decade-long tenure as ceo of onward luxury group), dario nasuti brings a signature technique borrowed straight from haute couture into this piece: freehand rigid draping.
the lampshade begins as a sheet of pure wool, which is heavily kneaded with specialized binding paints. While the fabric is still wet and malleable, it is draped over a raw wooden cube, where it is literally nailed down to lock, pilot, and freeze the organic folds, tension, and gravity of the material. For this specific creation, the artist chose to extend this identical sculptural and chromatic treatment to the entire metal frame and circular base. The entire body of the floor lamp is then painted in a complex multi-colored stratification, blended freehand with the use of turpentine. This process triggers a superficial chemical reaction, generating fluid dripping effects and a brilliant vitrification that gives the entire sculpture a stunning, glossy ceramic-like look and feel.
material specifications and technical lighting
this artwork is a unique, avant-garde piece entirely handcrafted in italy within dario nasuti’s 300-sqm showroom and workshop, located in the historic center of parma.
materials: structural metal frame, custom-treated wool lampshade, acrylic paints, and specialized ceramic-effect binders.
dimensions: overall height of 140 cm.
light engineering: the sculptural lampshade is intentionally wide and deep, meticulously engineered to enclose and conceal the light source from direct sight. Because the thickness of the treated fabric and the draped shape naturally absorb illumination, the designer counterbalanced this by equipping the fixture with a highly powerful 15w led bulb. This technical choice ensures a magnificent and brilliant scenic glow, creating a hypnotic contrast between the dark, textured exterior of the sculpture and the radiant, brilliant core of light bursting from within.
european plug (up to 250v).
