Crafted on … Read more An exquisite three-piece antique Bavarian porcelain dessert or breakfast set featuring a striking, hand-painted grape and vine motif. Crafted on the elegant, scalloped "Louise" blank by Jaeger & Co. (ca. 1902–1914), each piece features a moody, atmospheric green background and leafs that fade into a glowing yellow, beautifully showcasing the realistic translucent green and purple grape clusters. The sugar and creamer feature delicate black berries in addition to the grapes that match the plates.

The serving plate, covered sugar bowl, and cream pitcher all feature delicate, intact gold gilt rims and are hand-signed by the celebrated early 20th-century porcelain artist, Alois Koch. A stunning, collector-grade cabinet or service set in exceptional condition.

At the Peak of the "Bavarian Fruit" Era (1890s–1910s) Koch’s work became famous for its dramatic realism, heavily influenced by the Chiaroscuro technique (the strong contrast between light and dark). This specific background shading gave his grapes a spectacular "lit from within" quality, making them look hyper-realistic, heavy, and full of moisture. He balanced his grape clusters beautifully with changing autumn leaves that feature realistic, decaying brown edges and sprawling, intricate vines. See less
