This object exhibits multi part pinned construction, assembly marks, heavy bronze casting, hand finishing, old oxidation and evidence of age. The lower body appears to be exact in dimensions and profile to Louis XIV Ormolu Jardiniere illustrated in The Jacques Garcia Collection sale at Sotheby's New York October 27, 1990 Lot 18. With the sphynx portion put on top the dimensions are 11.5"h by 9.5"w by 5"d.
With the top sphynx portions off the dimensions are the same as the Jacques Garcia pieces.
All of the pieces that you see in the one photo [6 parts] are the pieces that make this bronze sculpture whole and they are connected by 17thc pinning construction. Note that the Jardinieres in the Sotheby's Lot 18 have had "later added liner and now raised on Porphyry base" The original dimensions of the Sotheby's lot before additions are identical to this listing.
