A refined and highly architectural example of Florence Knoll’s influential approach to modern furniture design, the Model 2530 four-seat bench perfectly embodies the disciplined elegance and rational aesthetic that defined mid-century modernism. Designed with a strong emphasis on proportion, structure, and material honesty, the bench reflects Florence Knoll’s background in architecture and her vision of creating furniture as an integrated extension of interior space, rather than purely decorative objects.
Produced by De Coene in Kortrijk for Knoll International, this piece represents the exceptional level of craftsmanship associated with European Knoll manufacturing during the post-war modernist period. The minimalist chrome-plated steel frame creates a crisp and linear foundation, giving the bench its unmistakable visual lightness and precision. Every detail, from the slender proportions to the restrained geometry, contributes to the timeless sophistication of the design.
The bench has been newly upholstered in an expressive Dedar Ichi-go Ichi-e fabric in the iconic “Yves Klein” Blue tone, introducing a bold artistic contrast to the otherwise restrained architectural form. The richly textured textile adds depth, vibrancy, and a contemporary edge, transforming the piece into both a functional seating object and a sculptural statement within the interior. The interplay between the cool industrial chrome frame and the saturated blue upholstery creates a beautiful dialogue between modernist discipline and artistic expression.
Originally conceived for corporate, architectural and high end residential interiors, Florence Knoll’s designs remain remarkably relevant today due to their clarity, balance and understated luxury. This Model 2530 bench is no exception, a timeless modernist classic with renewed character, carefully updated while fully respecting the integrity of the original design.
