A rare and unusual set of six Japanese wooden masu-style cups created for the XII World Congress of Anatomic & Clinical Pathology (W.A.S.P.) held in Tokyo, Japan in 1983.
Crafted in traditional square masu form with exposed joinery construction, each piece bears the original congress inscription:
“XII World Congress of Pathology”
“Anatomic and Clinical”
“East Meets West in Pathology”
Historically, Japanese masu vessels were used for measuring rice and serving sake; these examples were produced as commemorative congress souvenirs blending Japanese tradition with international scientific culture.
An unusual collectible spanning medical history, Japanese decorative arts, conference ephemera, and academic memorabilia.
Provenance:
Acquired at the congress in Tokyo, Japan, October 10–14, 1983, from the personal collection of conference attendees. An intriguing crossover collectible appealing to:
