A large, likely American oil on canvas painting depicting a mountainous scene. The small camp in the middle near a lake tells a little story of older times who people traveled to far away lands to start a new life.
We see indigenous people in the lower right corner (see photo, look closely.) They appear to be hiding and closely watching the goings ons in the cabin and on the lake.

The mountains were painted in an atmospheric way highlighting the sky and the light making its way to the lake and the cabin.

We have not found a signature.

Painted on canvas. In a likely original wood frame with gilt painted details.
The frame has minor surface wear.
The painting is in good condition with two tiny repair marks on its back side. The repairs do not appear to be fixing any holes but rather strengthening the canvas where it may have been lightly pressed forward.

In as found condition. We have not repaired or altered the painting ourselves.
