This theme is part of the traditional Chinese "Insects and Plants" (caochong) painting genre.
The side features handwritten calligraphy alongside a red iron-red artist seal mark. This style is highly characteristic of porcelain wares produced during the Late Qing Dynasty or the Early Republic Period.
