This antique Chinese jar from the early 20th century is cloaked inside and out with a beautiful drip glaze of red-brown color with irregular streaks of inky black. The little jar was once used daily in a Qing-dynasty kitchen for food storage and pickling, as evidenced by its glazed interior.
The small earthenware jar is potted with bulbous sides that narrow to a short, constrained neck, textured with ridges that reveals its coiled construction. With a satin finish and speckled imperfections, the rustic jar is ideal today as a tabletop planter or a vase filled with flowers.
