Standing 47" tall by 7.5" wide by 1.25" deep, with a custom 6.25" square swoop stand. This ehel post once anchored tent walls in traditional Tuareg dwellings, holding long eseber mats that defined sleeping spaces and provided privacy. Four posts were typically used per tent. Hand-carved from a single piece of dense hardwood, the symmetrical form and detailed geometric patterns reflect tribal, clan, and family identity—marking this as a prestige piece that served both practical and decorative functions. The carving demonstrates skilled craftsmanship and cultural significance. Solid condition with minor wood loss on the top, consistent with age and traditional use. A rare artifact from the Tuareg people of the Hoggar region in northwestern Niger, whose ancestors controlled trans-Saharan trade routes for over two millennia. As nomadic lifestyles have declined, such functional tent objects have become increasingly scarce, making this an important cultural and historical piece. See less
