This fine antique George III mahogany bowfront chest dates to the late 18th century and is a wonderful example of the refined cabinetmaking produced during the Georgian period. The bowfront form became especially fashionable toward the end of the 1700s, introducing a softer and more elegant profile compared with earlier straight-front designs. With its classic proportions, warm mahogany surface, and timeless design, this chest remains just as functional and beautiful in a modern home as it was over two centuries ago.
The chest is crafted from richly figured mahogany with a gracefully curved bowfront case and a desirable two-over-three drawer configuration. The drawer fronts display beautiful grain movement and are accented by brass pulls that complement the warm tones of the wood. Resting on classic French feet with a shaped apron below, the piece has the understated elegance associated with fine English Georgian furniture. The craftsmanship, quality materials, and aged patina give the chest wonderful character and presence.
The chest is in nice antique condition with wear consistent with age and normal use. The mahogany retains a beautiful aged surface with minor marks, finish variations, and imperfections expected from a piece dating to the late 18th century. There have been some veneer repairs completed over the years, and there is an age-related split to the side panel, which is commonly seen on antique case pieces as wood naturally expands and contracts over time. These details are part of the history of the piece and do not take away from its wonderful appearance and usability. A beautiful George III chest offering exceptional craftsmanship, classic style, and practical storage. 43h x 43w x 21d
