The compact rounded form features intricate hand-built terre mêlée decoration with a striking floral band encircling the body, contrasting against a richly varied composition of turquoise, black, blue, red, orange and cream tones. Jean Gerbino became celebrated for his innovative use of terre mêlée and mosaic-like ceramic construction, creating richly patterned surfaces through the careful arrangement of coloured clay elements rather than applied decoration. The resulting effect creates exceptional visual depth, with flowing marbled forms above and below the floral border producing a surface that appears both structured and organic. The squat body with gently flared neck gives the vase a sculptural quality while maintaining the intimacy and decorative appeal of a smaller cabinet-sized object.
