An impressive royal copenhagen porcelain sculpture after theodor lundberg's celebrated model “wave and rock”, one of the most ambitious figural designs produced by the danish factory.
the composition combines powerful sculptural modelling with dramatic movement. A bound male figure sits upon a rocky outcrop while a female figure emerges from the sea in a gesture of intimacy and rescue. The flowing blue waves create a striking contrast against the white porcelain bodies, giving the sculpture exceptional visual presence.
designed in 1897 and produced here in 1968, the model reflects the symbolist fascination with mythology, emotion and the forces of nature. The combination of monumental scale, refined modelling and royal copenhagen's celebrated underglaze blue decoration makes this one of the factory's most important twentieth-century sculptural works.
the underside bears the royal copenhagen wave mark, painter's monogram kk, model number 1132, and the date code for 1968.
a museum-quality scandinavian sculpture with outstanding decorative and collector appeal.
