This ceramic shishi, also known as a Japanese guardian lion or karajishi, is made in the expressive Kutani tradition. The figure shows the lion with an open mouth, elegant curling mane, powerful posture, and a decorative ball beneath its front paws. The combination of deep red, cream, blue, green, and gold gives the piece a rich and vibrant presence.

In Japan, shishi and related komainu figures are traditionally seen as symbolic guardians, associated with protection, luck, and prosperity. The underside is marked with the Kutani signature, which corresponds beautifully with the style and finish of the object.

The figure is in very good condition, without damage.
