Handcrafted ceramic vase from the Thuringian workshop Unterstab, renowned since the mid-20th century for its high-fired stoneware vessels and distinctive smoky glazes. The rounded shape with its narrow neck is characterized by an organically flowing, smoky glaze, which acquires its cloudy, deep gray and black tones through reduction firing.
The matte, subtly textured surface and the calm, expressive color gradient are typical of Unterstab's later period in the 1970s and 80s, during which the workshop increasingly worked with atmospheric glazes and naturalistic effects.
