The shallow vide-poche is … Read more A perfectly formed ceramic piece from one of the most celebrated names in twentieth-century italian ceramics. The shallow vide-poche is finished in a characteristic craquelure white glaze, against which gambone has arranged a grid of vivid painted signs - some reminiscent of nautical signal flags - in turquoise, scarlet, yellow and orange. The dish's outline is an organic, softly pinched rectangle with gently undulating edges. The motifs are part abstract painting, and perhaps, part playful private language. It is the kind of piece that gambone loved to make and that nobody else quite managed to replicate.
