Late 20th Century Carlton House Writing Desk. Features a chinoiserie lacquered exterior with a bow shaped form featuring a sloped front, eleven drawers and compartments. The desk is supported by louis xv style legs with a turned and fluted design leading to arrow feet. The desk showcases a Neoclassical painted design with urns, wreaths, swags and gold trim throughout.
The Carlton House desk is a renowned 18th-century English furniture form, designed around 1780–1790 for the Prince of Wales (later George IV) and named after his London residence, Carlton House. Often credited to designer George Hepplewhite, these desks are characterized by a U-shaped, tiered superstructure of drawers and pigeon holes that wraps around the writing surface
