Crafted circa 1880, the rectangular porcelain cachepot is designed in the form of a woven basket, complete with twisted rope-form borders, loop handles, and a faux bois base raised on small feet. The exterior is richly embellished with applied floral garlands featuring hand-painted roses, blossoms, buds, and lush green foliage in vibrant shades of pink, blue, purple, and green.
The open lattice weave design adds remarkable depth and texture, showcasing the sculptural artistry associated with fine French barbotine ceramics of the late 19th century.
