Simply stunning oil painting of a three-masted clipper ship unfurling sails into the wind in an ornate gilded frame.
Clipper ships originated in the Chesapeake Bay as swift, two-masted "Baltimore Clippers," which were famously used as privateers during the War of 1812. The classic, three-masted deep-water clipper evolved in American and British shipyards during the 1840s and 1850s to answer the demand for moving highly perishable and valuable freight, like tea and silk.
This painting is truly stunning with a delicately painted sky framing the magnificent vessel. In good condition overall - the canvas needs putting back firmly into the frame on the left hand bottom corner. The beautifully decorated gilded frame is in great condition.
Your purchase will support The Green Chair Project, a home-furnishing nonprofit organization that supports families in need and in crisis.
