Yuichi Hirako
Japanese, b. 1982
Yuichi Hirako’s drawings and paintings feature figures with plants for heads and interiors overgrown with flora—motifs that ask viewers to reconsider their relationship to nature. The Tokyo-based artist, who also works in sculpture, installation, and sound performance, is interested in how Western Christian thought and Japanese animism-based traditions treat nature and its potential. Hirako graduated with a BFA from Wimbledon College of Arts and has exhibited in Tokyo, Taipei, Paris, Seoul, San Francisco, and other cities. Hirako’s work belongs in the collections of the Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company, the AkzoNobel Art Foundation, and the VandenBroek Foundation.
