I must assert up front that I am not an expert at Chinese porcelain, but the hand-painted mark on the … Read more I must assert up front that I am not an expert at Chinese porcelain, but the hand-painted mark on the back of each plate is a four-character seal script mark for the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, and the style of this plate does have a very convincing air of being older - if they are reproductions they are very lovely ones!
These Chinese Imari porcelain plates feature intricate hand-painted floral motifs, specifically chrysanthemums and the little scrolls and butterflies compliment the central design. Along the edge are some pretty geometric sections and the indigo details appear to be an overglaze finish, and th texture of the is a bit raised.
I love Imari, as it is lovely mixed in with any collection of blue and white as it adds that beautiful pop of orange while still staying true to the Asian style. I love mixing these into plate walls and mantel displays, and tucked onto shelves amongst other treasures.
There is no damage in the form of chips or cracks or crazing - the only irregularities are the smear of paint from the process of manufacture and hand-painting.
Both come with a hanging wire for displaying on the wall.
