The upper and lower cabinet doors are detailed with vertical fluted … Read more 19th century large Swedish Gustavian cabinet, crafted in pine. The upper and lower cabinet doors are detailed with vertical fluted carved panels, while the middle section includes three drawers, each accented with a traditional diamond motif and topped by fluted horizontal carving. The upper cabinet is slightly raised, allowing for additional storage and serving use.
The cupboard has been given a newer layered antique white painted finish with gray undertones that beautifully suits the age and grace of the piece, while the interior has been painted in a pink washed finish. The upper cabinet left door is held in place with an old interior metal latch, which is only reached through a hole inside the right cabinet. The interior opens to reveal three shelves on the left side and two full shelves on the right side topped by a curved notched shelf that originally displayed family silver spoons. The upper right door is held in place with an exterior wood latch, and the lower cabinet right door is secured with a similar wood latch. There is slight sagging to the upper right door, though it does not detract from the overall look or function.
This large cabinet has been restored, is strong, stable, and ready for use. Typical age related separation is seen at many seams and corners, and scratches, nicks, and wear all reflect generations of use. Built in two sections for easier transportation and installation.
