This iron-studded door from Provence is no exception, as noted by the five and a half inch thick kickplate. Hand-carved in the 1800s, the door has been bleached more recently, exposing the incredible oak wood grain and old, character-defining restorations.

The door is very well-carved, as noted by the thick moldings that surround the three panels of the upper half of the door. A chapeau de gendarme molding, reminiscent of the bicorne hats popularized by Napoleon in the late 18th to early 19th centuries, forms a prominent crest to the largest panel, perfectly framing the radiating foliate backplate and strike pad. Exposed nailheads, both rounded and flatheads, add a unique aesthetic appeal, while also keeping the strapwork on the interior side secure. The wood has been stripped, leaving the oak in its natural tan hue, although some areas still have traces of the initial, darker finish. Our oak and iron-studded door is robust and well-constructed, while possessing striking features, making it a statement piece that can be used as a front entry, wine cellar door, or as an interior architectural accent.
