Dating to approximately … Read more Here is an early 20th-century carved wood console table in the George II and Chippendale Revival style. Dating to approximately the 1930s, the table has a substantial presence with beautifully balanced proportions and an abundance of carved detail.

The richly carved apron combines geometric latticework with scrolling foliate decoration and an elaborate central cartouche. Additional carving continues around the corners and onto the cabriole legs, which terminate in wonderfully sculptural paw-form feet. A carved border frames the rectangular top.

Finished in a deep rich brown, the table retains the character and variation of its older finish. The reverse is simply finished, making this best suited for placement against a wall as a console or hall table. The underside shows traditional wood construction along with age and evidence of previous minor repairs. An “A2” assembly or workshop marking appears on both the reverse and underside.

A distinctive decorative table with great scale and an abundance of carved detail. Its combination of Georgian form and geometric detailing gives it a particularly interesting take on the Chippendale Revival style. See less
