A remarkable 19th-century French Orientalist zamak bust clock, beautifully sculpted in a large and impressive size. This decorative 1-piece antique combines figural sculpture, ornate costume detail, and a working clock movement, making it both a functional timepiece and a striking work of decorative art.
The bust depicts a cheerful young laughing woman with a beautifully expressive face. She wears an elaborate headdress and richly decorated clothing covered with coin-like ornaments. Coins appear throughout the design, including in her earrings, headpiece, necklace, and garments, giving the piece a highly detailed Orientalist character.
The sculptural quality is especially charming. The woman’s joyful expression, softly modeled features, and ornate costume make the bust full of personality and presence. It is a true statement piece for a collector, library, mantel, console, cabinet, or refined antique interior.
Set into the chest of the bust is a working clock movement with a decorative dial. The dial features Roman numerals placed within cartouches, adding a classical decorative detail to the richly modeled surface. The clock is in working order, has an 8-day movement, and strikes on the half and whole hour.
The clock is complete and comes with its key, bell, and pendulum.
Made in France during the 19th century, this bust is crafted from zamak and has a strong, heavy presence. With its impressive scale, detailed decoration, and unusual combination of figural sculpture and clock, it is a beautiful example of 19th-century French Orientalist decorative taste.
