Highly collectible original vintage exhibition poster from 1971, celebrating the landmark Exposition René Char at the prestigious Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France
This historic piece represents an incredible mid-century collaboration between avant-garde poetry and modern art. The central artwork is a study ("Etude de Georges Braque") designed by the legendary cubist master Georges Braque, specifically selected to honor his close friend, the poet René Char.
Printed by the world-renowned Arte Adrien Maeght, this poster showcases the exceptional lithographic ink density and heavy, fibrous vintage paper stock characteristic of Maeght’s legendary art publications. The official publisher markings (© fondation maeght / imp arte adrien maeght) are crisply printed along the bottom edge, verifying its absolute authenticity.

CONDITION: This is an unbacked, loose vintage poster in good, honest vintage condition with authentic handling wear and a natural aged patina consistent with its 50+ years. It displays beautifully but shows the following specific signs of wear (fully documented in the listing photos)
Light natural paper toning and minor browning along the perimeters. There is typical handling wear, including small edge nicks, slight corner creasing, and a soft vertical crease running parallel to the right-side margin.
Three of the four back corners show signs of previous mounting. There are patches of paper skinning and thinning, where the poster was carefully lifted from a backing board. The text from the front corners slightly ghosts through to the back in these thinned areas.
Please review all high-resolution close-up photos to assess the exact condition before purchasing. Once framed behind glass, these perimeter and reverse blemishes will be safely minimized or hidden entirely, making it an excellent display piece.
This historic piece celebrates the deep creative friendship and lifelong brotherhood between the poet René Char and the cubist master Georges Braque. Following WWII, the duo collaborated on legendary artist books (livres d’artiste) published by Galerie Maeght, seamlessly blending Char's powerful avant-garde poetry with Braque's iconic modernist forms. This 1971 exhibition poster stands as a magnificent monument to their shared legacy and artistic harmony.
