A charming and characterful piece, this William & Mary style hall table is built from early pine and carries the warmth of genuine age. The form is classic — boldly turned legs joined by a shaped X-stretcher with bun feet, a wide single drawer with original brass ring pulls and a decorative brass keyhole escutcheon. The overall silhouette has real presence for a piece of this scale.
The top shows honest wear consistent with its years: old repairs and surface marks that speak to a long life of use rather than careful storage. The feet appear to have been restored at some point, and the piece is believed to have been constructed in the late 19th century using earlier 18th-century elements — a not-uncommon practice among country craftsmen of the period. The result is a table with more soul than a purely period example, and more authenticity than a reproduction.
