Some pieces don't just decorate a space-they define it. With its monumental scale and a patina layered in turquoise and bronze that time itself could never replicate, this weathervane possesses a sculptural soul that feels almost alive. It doesn't just elevate a collection—it transforms it into something unforgettable.
This oversized copper squirrel weathervane (24" high × 22" wide) is unusually large for its motif and strongly attributed to E.G. Washburne & Co. of New York, ca. 1880-1900. The form, with upright ears and curled tail, is believed to be a rare adaptation of Cushing & White's Squirrel form.
Crafted from heavy-gauge copper with repoussé work and lap-soldered seams, the squirrel retains sculptural dimensionality despite its monumental scale. Its patina is layered in turquoise, green with painterly in effect and the product of more than a century of exposure. Contains a few faint superficial scratches. One of the most intact well-preserved antique weathervanes Heritage Vanes has to offer.
