A charming, matched pair of 19th-century Chinese Canton enamel on copper miniature baluster-form vases. Masterfully hand-painted in the traditional Famille Rose / Rose Medallion export style, these cabinet-sized pieces showcase vibrant court interior scenes framed by lush lime-green borders filled with pink peonies, seasonal foliage, and gilded accents. The delicate necks are flanked by stylized dragon-motif handles, and the lower bodies are anchored by deep cobalt blue bands with intricate gold scrollwork.
Previously held in a private collection with a 19th-century antique shop attribution, this pair possesses an incredible, undeniable sense of history and presence. Their petite scale makes them an exceptional styling choice for a curated bookshelf, a small gallery bracket, or a vanity display.

As is typical for early enamel-on-copper ware subjected to generations of handling, there are noticeable areas of enamel loss, flaking, and fracturing. This wear is heaviest along the high-tension curves of the flared rims, the raised neck rings, and the upper shoulders, where the glass-like enamel has sheared away to expose the stable, oxidized copper substrate underneath. One vase also exhibits a stable, historic vertical hairline fracture through the enamel of the main body panel, which does not impact the rigid metal core. The interiors feature a tight network of authentic age crazing. For collectors and designers who prize a weathered, time-worn wabi-sabi patina over pristine modern reproductions, this pair offers magnificent color, symmetry, and genuine antique soul. less
