About the Artist:
Marlene Tseng Yu (b. 1937) is an internationally celebrated Abstract Expressionist known for her monumental scales and environmental focus. Fusing classical Chinese brush techniques with Western abstraction, her work captures the raw energy of nature. With over 80 solo exhibitions, her art resides in permanent museum collections worldwide. Alongside her architect husband, James Yu, she co-founded the Rainforest Art Foundation to champion green art initiatives.
Artwork Detail & Visual Composition:
Titled "Dancing Coral," this striking 1991 print is a masterful exploration of marine movement and vibrant color theory. The composition utilizes fluid, lace-like white negative spaces that seem to drift over rich carmine reds, cobalt blues, and jade-green washes. Reminiscent of a thriving coral ecosystem, the piece beautifully balances the atmospheric pooling of lithographic ink with organic contours. V
