American, b. 1958
Henry Taylor is a Los Angeles-based painter celebrated for his vivid, emotionally direct figurative paintings. Rooted in the traditions of portraiture, Taylor creates visceral canvases that depict the everyday lives of family, friends, and strangers, often drawn from his experiences growing up in Oxnard, California. His work, which frequently references African-American culture and history, is known for its urgency and raw painterly energy. This poster was produced on the occasion of Henry Taylor: B Side at MOCA Los Angeles (November 6, 2022 – April 30, 2023), featuring Untitled (2016–18).
