Free-blown marbled glass, colored by surface vitrification: the cobalt blue diffuses in irregular patches on a milky white background, without symmetry. The hammered wrought iron mount encircles the neck with a cylindrical ring from which two double-volute handles extend; branches run along the body and bear palmate chestnut leaves with five leaflets, chiseled and soldered separately.
Naturalistic glassware set in wrought iron structures is one of the characteristic styles of Delatte's production, in the tradition of the plant-based naturalism of the Nancy School. André Delatte (1887–1953) founded Verreries de l'Est SA in Jarville, near Nancy, in 1921, producing glass in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. His works are now exhibited at the Musée de l'École de Nancy. He is considered one of the great glass masters of the early 20th century (Daum, Gallé, Muller, etc.).
