A rare and charming Art Nouveau tobacco jar, signed Sarreguemines, in polychrome majolica, with its original lid. Made in 1885.
This antique tobacco jar can be repurposed according to your inspiration, as a jewelry box or decorative piece.
Sarreguemines piece number 3329.
Emblematic of the Art Nouveau period, its organic lines and fluid decoration evoke plant movement and the aesthetic explorations of the Belle Époque.
Its voluptuous and dynamic silhouette is sculpted in relief with undulating and asymmetrical ribs.
The majolica features blended shades of plum purple, mauve pink, amber caramel, cream, and celadon turquoise on the interior.
The original lid follows the lines of the body and is finished with a delicately shaped knob handle.
The interior features a luminous turquoise glaze that contrasts elegantly with the warm, purplish tones of the exterior.
The body of the pot is in superb condition, with no damage and the colors are well preserved.
The glaze, both inside and out, has a beautiful shine.
The only minor issue is an old restoration on the lid, as you can see in the last photo. This repair is solid and does not weaken the overall structure.
