Designed in the 1960s by Arnt Sørheim for the Norwegian factory Brødrene Sørheim Møbelfabrikk AS, this piece brings pure design history into your home. As this factory produced on a much smaller scale than the well-known Danish manufacturers at the time, this model is now a rare, value-retaining design classic. The design embodies the much-loved Mid-Century Modern style. The row of five central drawers immediately catches the eye thanks to the flowing, inlaid cup handles familiar from the iconic Arne Vodder style, which gives the sideboard a beautifully sculptural character. The craftsmanship is evident in the solid teak frame with elegantly rounded corners and the continuous, flamed wood grain. Thanks to the slender base with tapered legs, the sideboard retains an airy, floating appearance in the room. The piece has recently been restored. This involved, amongst other things, thoroughly cleaning and conditioning the cabinet; stains etc. were also removed by sanding; and the whole piece has been re-varnished whilst fully preserving its authentic character and warm, fitting patina. Furthermore, the cabinet has undergone a virtually invisible modification. The fault-prone mechanical locks on the doors have been professionally converted to a modern magnetic system; as the parts for the original locks were no longer available, the original keys have been fixed in place and now serve as fixed handles. The sleek appearance remains exactly as the designer intended. A unique showpiece, ready for a stylish new interior. Signs of wear appropriate to its age and intended use, but never obtrusive; in very fine, well-maintained condition following recent restoration.
