Traveling Man Treasures Curiosity Vault has this fine bronze Korean statue of Baby Buddha pointing to heaven and earth. The piece appears to be late 18th to early 19th century; but based on the style, look and feel, it may be several centuries older.
The statue depicts Siddhartha Gautama at birth, standing on a lotus flower base with one hand pointing up and the other down. Crafted from cast bronze, this baby Buddha is in excellent structural condition with signs of wear to the gilding combined with the deep and rich patina of age. Similar figures are known as Tanjobutsu in related Japanese traditions, representing the Buddha's first steps and proclamation.
