Completed in December 1966, as dated bottom left, the artwork was created in a substantial, statement-sized gallery format typical for the 1960s residential and corporate market.
The painting depicts a stylized, semi-abstracted hilltop village or cluster of white stucco dwellings, complete with tiny windows to keep out the storms and the heat. As such, the subject is reminiscent of Mediterranean coastal hillside towns such as Positano, or Andalusia’s white villages. The artist deployed a Cubist-influenced structure, stacking geometric, square-windowed architectural forms vertically to imply depth up a hillside rather than using linear perspective.
