A rare Swedish Grace chandelier with … Read more Four-armed brass chandelier, attributed to Harald Notini for Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, Sweden, ca. 1927–1933. A rare Swedish Grace chandelier with typical Notini stylistic elements: curved, richly ornamented brass arms with decorative scrollwork and three-dimensional flourishes, as documented in Harald Notini's work for Böhlmarks, including model 6316 from 1927, published in the catalog "Electric Lighting Armature, Nyheter 1927," Iduns Tryckeri, Stockholm. The distinctive serrated brass fittings for the opaline glass shades follow the construction described for model 6316 exactly, where the shades are attached to brass holders with a serrated shape and the center features serrated decorative details; a variant, 6316 A, is documented in the Böhlmarks catalog of 1933. The chandelier features two turquoise-green glass discs—one above and one below the arms—which act as light diffusers and allude to Notini's documented use of additional glass discs, such as in model 10034 with "four shades and two discs in engraved Havana glass" in the 1936 Böhlmarks catalog, and in another model with three glass discs. Opaline glass shades with a soft light effect, patinated brass, and the combination of serrated brass fittings, curved arms with ornamentation, and additional glass discs make this chandelier a typical Swedish Art Deco/Swedish Grace design from the late 1920s to the 1930s.
