The ceramic is decorated with ethnic motifs in a tribal or childlike style, on a speckled brown background. The interior is a contrasting blue. Decorative, intriguing, and beautifully thrown, it is a very fine piece that embodies the blend of art and craft.

The vase is exquisitely crafted, with a nuanced, thick, and mineral-like glaze. The vase is in good condition, with the decoration varying from side to side. A small chip is visible inside the neck, as shown in the photo. The ceramic is signed on the underside with a stylus.

10 to 11.5 cm in diameter, 13 cm in height.

In the mid-20th century, Accolay was the cradle of a true revolution in ceramics. Four former students of Alexandre Kostanda settled in the small village in the Yonne region in the mid-1940s, and many potters followed their example. For about forty years, the production of the Accolay potters was impressive, original and bold, characterized by thick, often speckled glazes and a wild creativity. See less
