The intense and theatrical scene captures the climax of the gospel story: the head of john the baptist is brought on a platter to salome, herod, and the guests. On the left side, a beautiful maidservant places the macabre trophy on a platter, while salome, elegantly seated at the table, rotates her torso with a refined, almost dance-like movement. Herod, captured in a grave and meditative expression, dominates the psychological center of the scene.
