That initiated a design craze known as Egyptian Revival during the Art Deco era. This is very likely from that era. It is heavy and very well made, with brass adornments all over the place! Much of the brass is applied with nails and flat head screws. This piece is resplendent with griffins, goddess heads and feet! The entire piece is covered with a burl veneer that is in very good condition considering it is probably over 100 years old. The veneer on the top of the table is all there, though it is "wavy," which means it is raised up some in places. This is coffee/cocktail height and size. Such a stunning piece that you won't see many of. I believe all the brass adornments are in tact with the exception of one small bead on the top border. This would be so stunning in a library or bedroom and mixes well with other styles as a statement piece! Additional measurements include.... the brass feet are about 2" wide; the stretcher at the bottom is about 3 3/4" off the ground; from the top of the stretcher to the bottom of the apron is 15"; the griffin motif on the center side is 6 3/4" wide. I have no idea where this would have been made so I have said the U.S. Perhaps it once was in one of those grand mansions on the east coast! See less
