On offer are two outstanding, historically important, and museum worthy late 19th century Bohemian cranberry glass pokal vases with hand … Read more On offer are two outstanding, historically important, and museum worthy late 19th century Bohemian cranberry glass pokal vases with hand painted enamel portraits of the Holy Roman Emperors Rudolph (Rudolf) I (1218 - 1291) and Otto II (955 - 983). The vases were most likely produced by Harrach or Moser around 1880. They stand 17.5" in height, have an upper rim diameter of just over 2.5", and a base rim diameter of 5". The portraits of King Rudolph I and King Otto II are faithfully reproduced from the paintings that hang in the 'Kaisersaal' (Emperors Hall) in Frankfurt. The painting of Rudolph I was originally painted by August Gustav Lasinsky, and the portrait of Otto II was painted by Adolf Friedrich Teichs. One of the vases appears to have had separation between the base and the body at some time in the past which has been restored with a threaded rod and nuts. The restoration does not detract aesthetically from this monumental pair of vases. Both vases stand nice and straight, there is some gilding rub around the rims, and there are no chips or cracks.
