Rare and highly important floor lamp model 1036 designed by Gino Sarfatti and produced by Arteluce, Milan, circa 1946–1948. An extraordinary and exceptionally scarce example from the earliest and most experimental phase of Sarfatti’s production, model 1036 perfectly embodies the designer’s visionary approach to balance, movement, and sculptural illumination. Conceived almost as a kinetic composition in space, the lamp combines engineering precision with a poetic and highly architectural presence, qualities that today place it among the most sought-after collectible lighting designs of post-war Italian modernism. The composition is defined by a dramatically elongated brass arm, counterbalanced by a suspended brass sphere weighted internally with lead shot — an ingenious technical solution frequently cited in period literature and auction references. The entire structure pivots elegantly through a spherical Carrara marble joint, creating an extraordinary visual equilibrium between tension, weight, and lightness. The lenticular Carrara marble base anchors the composition while enhancing its refined material dialogue. At the opposite end, the adjustable lacquered aluminum reflector appears almost suspended in space, giving the lamp a strikingly aerodynamic silhouette strongly connected to the futuristic and rationalist language that characterized Sarfatti’s most iconic early works. The subtle perforations around the reflector collar further reveal the designer’s obsession with functional detail and atmospheric light diffusion. What makes this piece particularly remarkable is its sculptural purity: every component serves both a structural and aesthetic purpose. The long diagonal axis creates a dynamic spatial gesture that transforms the lamp into a true architectural intervention rather than a simple lighting object. Seen from every angle, the composition changes continuously, balancing asymmetry, geometry, and suspension with exceptional elegance. Documented in literature and produced in extremely limited numbers, model 1036 is widely considered one of the rarest and most sophisticated floor lamps ever created by Gino Sarfatti. Very few examples have appeared on the market over the years, making this an important opportunity for serious collectors of Italian design and museum-quality lighting. The lamp has been intentionally preserved in its original vintage condition and patina, showing honest signs of age and use that contribute significantly to its authenticity and extraordinary character. The brass surfaces display a beautiful natural oxidation, while visible marks and subtle surface halos on the reflector remain as testimony to the lamp’s history and originality. Upon request, professional cleaning and polishing of the brass elements can be carried out before shipment; however, we strongly discourage such intervention, as it would inevitably diminish the remarkable original charm and historical integrity of the piece. The lamp retains its original wiring and is currently fully functional. It can operate both in Europe and in the United States through the use of an adapter, which we will gladly provide free of charge. Please note that due to the lower voltage standard in the US, the light output will appear softer and less intense. As is generally recommended for collectible vintage lighting, we always advise rewiring the lamp locally according to the electrical standards and safety regulations of the destination country. An exceptional collectible piece that perfectly bridges Italian rationalism, sculptural modernism, and functional art. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
