Still life by an important italian painter, a representative of magic realism. Ugo celada was born on may 25, 1895, in virgilio (mn). He died in varese on august 9, 1995. A precocious talent, in 1908 he exhibited, as one of the best students, at the end-of-course exhibition held at the palazzo ducale in mantua; he attracted the esteem and interest of ugo ojetti, and the praise of gabriele d’annunzio, then in mantua. He won a franchetti scholarship, which allowed him to attend the lessons of cesare tallone at the brera academy in milan. After world war i, he was accepted in 1920 to the xii international art exhibition of the city of venice; this was the year of the beginning of celada’s success, which gradually reached levels of international fame. In 1926 he married teresa. In 1932, superintendent mataloni granted him a studio at la scala in milan. In 1943, milan was bombed by the allied americans, and celada's studio on via revere was destroyed, along with all his paintings. After world war ii, celada was excluded from major art events: he participated only in exhibitions at the permanente in milan. He took part in the 1948 exhibition of the lombardy union of painters and sculptors in milan. In 1985, the municipality of cerese di virgilio (mn) inaugurated the ugo celada gallery, named after the artist, where fifty works donated by the artist are exhibited.
