Column-like, stylised figures … Read more Group of figures from a series depicting three venitian journeys: by carriage, by car, and by gondola. Column-like, stylised figures with heads held high; a carnival couple seated in a gondola featuring typical venetian architectural elements, with the gondolier standing behind them holding the oar. The figures and gondola are partly rendered in fine detail and partly assembled from individual geometric pieces, lending the scene a cheerful and playful character. Set on a sloping, asymmetrically stepped plinth with a rectangular base, bearing the meissen sword mark on the side and the artist’s round applied signature ‘ps’. Designed by peter strang (1936 - 2022) sculptor, from 1950 at the meissen manufactory, studied at the academy in dresden, 1973-2001 artistic director at the meissen manufactory, then freelance, from 1981 resident in moritzburg, created numerous genre and animal figures as well as wall sculptures.
