This Frank Carson rare vintage Modernist " Provincetown Bay Beach, Waterfront Seascape " custom framed original one of a kind signed Post-Impressionist oil painting on canvas panel is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist oil painting on canvas panel board is painted by the artist Frank Carson in 1942. The Provincetown Massachusetts waterfront scene depicts gable-roofed dockside fish shack structures, figures fishing, working on fish nets, and boats in the bay, with a jetty breakwater shoreline seascape in the distance. The composition is characterized by confident brushwork, layered color, and a luminous sky with cumulus clouds, reflecting the New England painting tradition and atmosphere of The Early Mid Twentieth Century.
E. Francis ( Frank ) Carson ( 1881 - 1968 ) was an American Modernist painter, educator, and critic born in Waltham, Massachusetts growing up in a period of artistic revolution, new art styles and emerging philosophies. Known for his Post-Impressionist landscapes, and marine coastal scenes in a Realist Expressionist style.
Carson studied at The Massachusetts School of Art, The Art Students League New York, The Fenway Art School, and The Boothbay Art Colony in Maine. He founded The Provincetown Art School in 1918. The artworks of Carson were exhibited nationally including The Pennsylvania Academy of Art, The Toledo Museum of Art, and extensively in Provincetown.
The rare vintage original one of a kind framed Modernist painting measures 21 1/8" W X 17" H X 1 1/2" D. It is hand signed by the artist Frank Carson in the lower left front corner bottom, dated 42 in the hull of the moored boat in the left side middle front area.
It is custom framed in a Contemporary Modern solid walnut wood matte eggshell finish museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The painting is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and some light visible surface wear. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
