An element of the appeal was benefit exhibition of art by leading talents, including April Gornik, Francesco Clemente, Christo, and Jenny Holzer. Exhibited at Manhattan’s august Tony Shafrazi Gallery (label is attached), one of the works was this large oil-on-linen painting by artist Baron Brandenburg. Entitled “Death Knoll Over a Green Forest”, it features classical figures of women — based on statues by Niccolò dell'Arca's fifteenth-century baroque masterpiece, "Lamentation over the Dead Christ", at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Vita in Bologna, Italy — mourning the landscape of the title as a brilliant red-and-green bird flees for its life. NB Knell would make more sense in the title rather than knoll, given the keening and wailing of the subjects. See less
