This is a handsome pair of matching bombé chests, designed and produced by Maitland-Smith in the 1990s.
The bombé form originated in 17th century France, aptly named after the French word for "swollen" or "curved". The silhouette features convex curves that bulge outward on the front and sides, tapering in at the base.
This pair features a high-quality, tooled leather veneer in a light beige hue, and they don large, round metal pulls.
Each piece has two large drawers with deep, wide storage space. There is also a pull-out writing surface on each chest as photographed.
Each chest measures 18.5 inches long, 43.5 inches wide, and 32.5 inches high.
